[break][break] a few that are considered extended family—really, only tremerie bannermen and some great noble houses with which they share ties in blood or in marriage—are invited to attend the lunch ceremony. they will break bread with the current lord killian tremerie and his son, now wearing the mark of the challenger. (yes, lady helena roswan's mother and father are permitted entry, only on this special occasion, though, alright?)[break][break] at 5pm, the beginning of the sun's descent, the challenge begins. milo will face off against his father in combat—by windblade, by warsong, and then by sword. [break][break]don't worry—he's sure to win. this is just ritual, after all. not quite the same thing as their ancestors would do, as i'm sure his grandmother would tell you. [break][break] all his friends and family are invited to watch, of course—who wouldn't want to see it? the tremeries own a gorgeous section of plateau that's been converted into a training range, and you can watch the sun dip below the mountain line, as though the warriors were stepping over it, conquering the light itself. [break][break] the thread itself begins much later—near 6:30pm, just after applause has broken loose at the tremerie's broken crown is placed, in two parts, on milo's head. one by one, the visitors stand to bow or kneel before the new lord tremerie and offer their gifts. the buffet is opened, and so are selection areas of the estate. The sun's descent is marked by celebration. After Killian leaves, Milo finally rises from the throne to greet his guests, and partake in the feast—an entire mountain goat has been put on the feast table, though there is a variety of food options through catering, the Tremeries partake in a more ceremonial, simplistic meal, the kind their ancestors might have had a long time ago. As the night goes on, guests eventually make their way from the garden to the ridge pass below, where the towering, gold-spun gates swing slowly open and they exit by horse carriage.[break][break]
Upon exiting the premises, all guests are given small gift packages, and waved goodbye by a host of estate staff.
