EXTRA GUIDELINES ON RANKS
[attr="class","staffbody"] [attr="class","staffheadimg"] ranks, an IC explanation[attr="class","staffpara"]
001. Initiates. Welcome to the world of magic! You've probably recently joined your coven (or recently decided to start taking your coven seriously), and you probably know one or two spells. At this point, witches might not even know a lot about their own covens or domains, and are still new to the world of magic.[break][break]
002. Novices. Novices aren't that much above initiates but tend to have devoted more of their time and energy into the coven. They probably have a few people they look up to as mentors and are self-motivated witches that are learning quickly, and gaining a reputation! They tend to have minimal authority, but take on more responsibility than an initiate [break][break]
003. Sentinels. This is where the bulk of a coven's witches lie in terms of magical skill. Many witches "cap out" at this rank and reach their natural limits. As sentinels, witches are given a lot more responsibility and may be known to their coven leaders or masters. They probably take on apprentices or help initiates ease into various tasks, but conversely might still be apprentices themselves to more powerful witches. Sentinels comprise the widest range of magical ability. Unlock your second domain at this rank.[break][break]
004. Acolytes. To progress to this point is, in some way, a declaration of total dedication on the part of a witch. Acolytes have devoted large portions of their life to the study of magic, and are trusted, respected members of their coven with considerable authority and often even the ears of the masters or coven leader. They usually lead raids or missions and are looked to as authority figures.[break][break] Acolytes usually must take an exam organized by the coven in order to attain their rank. On Moonrise, we do not require you to RP out this exam, although you are free to do so as a solo quest. [break][break] UPDATE JAN 28TH, 2023. [break] In order to achieve acolyte, characters must have participated in a site-wide, injury-enabled event (includes Silverwing). Exceptions may be made for injury-enabled, staff-moderated threads. [break][break]
005. Champions. Champions are just that-- champions. Witches of this level have typically done something worthy of legend-- whether that was a huge magical feat, an impressive victory in a duel, or an impossible heroic task, these witches are known not just as authority figures in their covens, but are famous in the public eye as well. ICly, this is the first rank that is granted externally from the witch's coven, typically by the Council of Delphi. It comes with a sobriquet, or a fancy epithet given to the witch based on their achievements. For example, a witch who is known for using bright red stars with their Starcalling domain might be called "The Scarlet Dawn." [break][break] Champion ranks are given out on a by-case basis, after a great achievement. In order for a character to become a Champion, they must embark on a solo quest IC-ly to rank up. [break][break] 006. Masters. Masters are often thought of as peerless witches in their domain, capable of turning the tides of battle with just their presence alone. There is usually only a handful of Masters in each coven, and they have a large following of witches -- not only because of their popularity and great feats, but as genuine admirers of their magical style and domain mastery. [break][break]
high priest/ess[attr="class","staffpara"]
High priest/esses are the ones that run the show. Their influence typically extends over entire areas or regions, and they can move and influence Delphi with just their steps. The "High priest/ess" honorific is not just a label on power, but also on influence. You cannot become an HP (as they are often abbreviated to) without having amassed some political sway. Rogue witches, or witches who become High Priest/esses through evil deeds, are often never officially made into HPs with a grand ceremony but will be "officially recognized" as an HP based on their notoriety by the council (or sometimes even just by the public).[break][break]

EXTRA - SUNSETTING
[attr="class","staffbody"] [attr="class","staffheadimg"] sunsetting characters[attr="class","staffpara"] When you need to take a step away from a character, or have already reached all the progression goals you want for that character, you may choose to "sunset" them instead of archiving them. Sunsetted characters can still participate in events, missions, and quests, but will no longer receive MP, and cannot change ranks. [break][break] Think of it as an alternative to archiving, in case you still want to revisit the character from time to time. [break][break] Sunsetting is NON REVERSIBLE. [break][break] You may regain any global limits once your character is subsetted -- i.e. if you had maxed out on all your NPC tie-ins, sunsetting a character will return those tie-in slots to you. This also applies to mythical familiars, or other global limits staff may impose. This also applied to the global cap of six characters -- sunset characters don't count toward that max, though humans and presets do.[break][break] Civilian characters, including preset acolytes, cannot be sunsetted. They can only be archived.[break][break]

EXTRA GUIDELINES ON RANKS
[attr="class","staffbody"] [attr="class","staffheadimg"] switching sides[attr="class","staffpara"] If your character plans on defecting from their current coven, their movement into a new coven will only be accepted on a case-by-case basis and should involve some form of IC development. It's extremely difficult, even just logsitcally, to move from one coven to the next.[break][break]
After successfully defecting, your characters rank will be reset to initiate (though they will retain all MP) and have very very little sway in their coven. Their ranks may be "regained" according to the following: [break][break]
1 rank regained per completed 1 mission in their new coven [break][break] or per2 social threads involving only characters in their new coven.
[break][break] IMPORTANT: Defected characters that have not regained all their ranks will not receive MP from missions. [break][break] Please discuss possible defections with staff beforehand!

EXTRA GUIDELINES ON RANKS
[attr="class","staffbody"] [attr="class","staffheadimg"] CHAMPION IC TEST[attr="class","staffpara"] Champions are recognized IC-ly by the council and by the normal layperson. Therefore in order to achieve this, champions must embark on a MODERATED CHAMPION QUEST. Quests should go by the following guidelines: - It must be considered a feat by the Council of Delphi—a champion quest cannot be "low-profile"
- It must have lasting consequences for the character and, ideally, the site as a whole. Becoming named a champion and given a sobriquet is an irreversible thing that has lasting consequences for someone
- Ideally, it impacts player characters other than your character.
- It can take any number of logical forms—from a moderated quest to a multi-stage event. When it comes to execution, please be as bold as you'd like! We're happy to enable a larger scope
- Unlike ultimate quests, Champion quests do not have to be failure-enabled. However, if your champion quest involves an ultimate spell, it will become enabled for failure and restrictions may apply.
- The sobriquet, though ultimately your choice, should reflect what the Council of Delphi might name your character, as representative of their magical feat.
Champion quests will have large sway over the site plot, so we ask that members review the details of their quest to staff. Please DM staff on Discord, and expect to work with staff continuously so that we can ensure maximum impact!
