Your story isn’t special.



The revolution and subsequent takeover wasn’t a pretty time for the Vale. You’ve read about it, in a bid to try and process what happened to your parents in a healthy way. The specifics of how they died are a mystery to you, considering neither you nor your twin have any idea how it happened. Out of the two of you, only you seem to be interested in what could have been. Even then, your parents weren’t important enough to stop the pair of you from ending up in an orphanage that was barely keeping up with the demand that recent events had placed on them.[break][break]

You came without names. That wasn’t exactly something uncommon, and most children that were too young to know their own names got assigned names by the orphanage. But, they never really cared that much about using them, and so you got more used to being called “girl”, “you” or being addressed by the colour of your hair or your eyes. Whatever name they’d given you wasn’t that important.[break][break]

You and your twin found your names in one of the books that you liked to read. Mirin found her name in the kitchen when you were cleaning. Champagne was something fancy and refined that adults would drink for celebrations, and you liked the idea that you were refined. Compared to the other orphans, apparently you were some kind of genius. It made you more irritating, because you knew things that you weren’t supposed to. You read and worked hard to try and get into a good school.[break][break]



Good schools didn’t want children in hand-me-down clothes. They wanted children with parents and documents and proper names. Instead, you had to make do with teaching yourself; libraries, getting your sister to steal books for you, and you told Mirin that one day, you’d be able to land yourself something that would get the pair of you out of these slums.[break][break]


You'd always been a sickly child, but things got progressively worse. Whilst you constantly had a cold or felt fatigued and weary, it was nothing compared to being constantly bedridden. Gradually, you watched your sister become more and more frantic trying to find something to cure you, taking on dangerous jobs with her new-found magic whilst you lay in bed wondering whether you'd die. For all that you knew, you had no idea what was killing you. Mirin couldn't steal you accurate accounts of diseases, nor could she steal you treatments that you'd need to get over your illness.[break][break]

But, the miracle workers that came to the Vale could. You were skeptical of such a thing, but you were barely conscious and unable to voice those concerns.[break][break]

You and your sister were taken from your home by the Tremerie family, and you would be given new names and new clothes. Apparently, Mirin had convinced them to take you in, citing your intelligence and magic. You had wondered what about you was good enough to prompt such a thing; but you had to make it worth it. If you failed to live up to the standards of Ravenna as your new authority figure, then you would surely be thrown back onto the streets with nothing to your names.[break][break]

So you joined Cerberus, and hoped for something better.
