Born Zofia Morek in 1958, she was brought into the world and into a Hydra family in a terrifying time: Hydra and their sympathizers were being removed left and right. Her childhood was spent hiding away with the Costas family, as her proud family refused to undertake fake identities. The Moreks had a history of loudly supporting Hydra financially, socially, and personally. They plotted in the shadows, though they obvious could not make the public appearances to fire up the coven that they used to. Despite this, their pride and ego lead to her parents' capture. As two high-profile Hydra scientists with profitable businesses, her father was locked away, and her mother fought back during her public trial and was promptly executed in 1963.[break][break]
Zofia had been living with the Costas that had housed them, a family with a long history in academia and a shorter one in dark magic research. Zofia became Penelope Costas as an adopted war-stricken orphan added to the Costas' long docket of philanthropy. No longer Zofia and confined to the shadows, Penelope lived in the light of a war-torn Delphi. She was homeschooled by the Costas, able to pursue traditional education as well as hear about the advancements in dark magic that the Costas were pursuing privately.[break][break]
Penelope was a ravenous student, constantly hungry for the answer to every question, and graduated high school at the age of fifteen. With the Costas being so established in education, it was easy for her to pursue a Bachelor's and then enter a doctorate program. In 1983, at 25 years old, she had her doctorate and pursued a second. Her projects often involved anatomical studies of the human body, but her later interests turned towards automatons, dolls, marionettes, puppets, and so on. She was once the charity case of the Costas (though she was loved as family, as all Hydra are), and now she was a prized jewel - a mind recognized outside of the coven and outside of academia.[break][break]
Penelope spent more time as a scientist than a witch, though her loyalty to Hydra was rewarded all the same. Her scientific developments become more frenzied as she witnessed Cerberus gain more power politically than she had feared. She took greater and greater risks, and in 2000, she was caught experimenting with dolls that would injure a specific witch in the same way you hurt the doll. She was sentenced to 30 years, but got out in 23 for a combination of good behavior, money, and influence from her affiliates.[break][break]
Now released, Penelope has opted to put a little more focus into the ground level of operations, as her age has made her scientific endeavors more suspicious than anything a Hydra foot solider would be up to.
