Sayuri was born in the Vale to the wealthy Shinozaki family, whose members were known for their contribution to the dramatic arts. With her, it was no different. Her career as a child actress began when she was only months old, and even when she became older her parents made all the decisions. She didn't know anything else, so she never complained. Even when her fame isolated her from her peers, she didn't mind.[break][break]
That is, until she passed by a group of girls performing a song on the street. They were lively and passionate, and they did not seem to mind that their audience was small. Sayuri was twelve years old, and in all that time she hadn't felt a passion like theirs. When she said she would like to be an idol, her manager – her father – enrolled her in singing lessons, then had her audition for musicals and even opera. Once again, Sayuri didn't complain. She'd asked for this, after all. Yet rather than feel fulfilled, she began to realize just how small her cage really was.[break][break]
When she turned sixteen, it was expected that she would join Cerberus like everyone else in her family. Instead she told her parents that she couldn't possibly keep up with all that they'd pushed on her, and that she'd never wanted to act anyway; what she wanted was to be an idol. After years of discontent, the ensuing argument was explosive.[break][break]
Sayuri had no qualms about threatening to divulge the fight to the media. Her parents were left with no choice but to agree to her legal emancipation, after which she cut them off. Moving forward, her life was hers. The first thing she did was move to Delphi, and the second was sign a contract with NCS Entertainment. She became a singer and model under her given name.[break][break]
Four years later, the agency decided to launch an idol group. She hadn't joined any before – she'd learned just how ruthless the industry was long ago –, but this time her manager thought a change of image might benefit her. Another thing she'd learned was that there was no such thing as complete freedom in the entertainment business.[break][break]
For the next three years, Sayuri was a part of the group Dream Girls. She was jaded and harsh, but she came to care for the other members in her own way. Their disbandment hit her harder than she let on: They were the only friends she'd ever made and the closest thing to family she had left. Following the unit's dissolution, she went on a hiatus and joined Cerberus. Whether she did this out of a wish to reconnect with her parents, to find a new purpose or to experience true freedom, even she doesn't quite know.
