The Timoria were best known for their strategic contributions and firepower for Cerberus in the Great War. Both of Diane's grandfathers were honourably discharged from service, even though we are only to focus on the one that was most important.[break][break]
In modern day, the solid majority of Timoria members held government, military or enforcer positions; anything that followed the creed of justice and order. They were the kind of family that would be perfectly content with, and fight for maintaining the status quo.[break][break]
They were the noble families' best allies, for they did not bite the hands that fed them. In the rare instance of those that crossed the line--wherever that line may be--they will be met with retribution and righteous fury.

Her voice broke through to Diane early at such a young age. It was clear and wise, as if these incidents happened a hundred times already, rather than once. As quickly as her existence came, she went silent for years.[break][break]
It left Diane to deal with the igniting stardust on her own. By the time Kiran materialised before her in her teenage years, her palms had already permanently scarred over. Her gaze over the wounds and the girl was pensive, calm and most of all: she did not look upon them with pity--the look her family and strangers used far too frequently.[break][break]
Diane took to her familiar near immediately. Kiran's false name meant the beaming sun; an apt name to how she saw the owl. Kiran's opinion of matters ranked higher than her own family, maybe even the nobles. Diane still had yet to know of her true name.[break][break]
Despite Kiran's sagely demeanour, she was an intensely curious type. Perhaps one could analyse it to be part of Diane's deep psyche; her sheltered life meant that many concepts in the outside world were unknown and novel. Kiran could even be seen as an enabler for Diane because of her thirst for knowledge.[break][break]
And until Diane blooms, her true name is taboo.

A rare illness that presents differently from witch to witch, but the basis of the disorder was in the name: the body has some fundamental trouble with regulating mana to functional levels.[break][break]
In Diane's case, it manifested early in childhood. It started with restlessness, a strange sense of malaise her extremely young mind couldn't express into words. Then the fevers came. They couldn't find a cause, and were only able to ease some of the heat with vials of Tyle of Nol. It all came to a head at six years old, when the heat became so unbearable it felt like her body ignited on fire.[break][break]
And then boom.[break][break]
Something did ignite. The stardust in the air, the thing the Timoria were so well acquainted with, magnetised towards her mana and like a strike of a match, exploded and seared her skin. She sobbed and screamed; her hands shook uncontrollably, charred red and black.[break][break]
Essentially, her mana built up within her body over time and had nowhere to go. Her body could not absorb it back into her bloodstream; flickers of it leaked out, becoming the proverbial matchstick to the stardust.[break][break]
Her parents kept her at home from then on, stuck without cures and afraid for the consequences. She was raised here, schooled here, and the motto was drilled into her everyday: do not let anyone know you are ill. Do not let anyone know you are defective.[break][break]
In recent years, Diane discovered that she could somewhat regulate her mana through casting spells. But the more she grew as a witch, the more mana was in her pool. And with more mana, the more she had to spend. What can she do now, when the war already ended over sixty years ago?
