Apologies in advance, but the very nature of the thread requires lying to anyone who reads this. Certain details aren't historically accurate to how the events really played out. Consider it a bias towards how Violet thinks about things. For instance, any of her clan members would use her actual name, but mentioning that here is a spoiler so. . .
Some parts, even she isn't aware of, so you won't find that here either.

It's easy. “Violet” is a result of the month she was born (you'd call it May here.) They reuse the same five or six flowers once they go down the list. Imitation can only get her so far. Part of the problem is getting around her own lack of empathy. Every day in Delphi serves as a reminder that she barely understands these people. They're all too hard to predict, which makes her job here difficult. [break][break]
Her own clan is much easier to deal with. They don't let feelings could their judgment.[break][break]
Fear. Hatred. Love. All emotions are a flaw in the design—a test to weed out the unworthy. Violet tries to mimic the response that she expects a normal citizen would have, but it isn't a perfect science. Her smiles are nothing more than empty platitudes intended to provoke a positive response. Joy is not a natural part of her clan's teachings. [break][break]
What they do impart to every young student caught in their system is much simpler. For example, all forms of life feel fear. It is not a weakness. Yet, any important decisions need to come from an impartial point of view. Happiness cannot be the end goal. Too selfish. Out in the wilderness, they need everyone to contribute to the group's survival.[break][break]
The lesson is particularly important for someone like Violet. The experience of trying to exist while violent thoughts lived in her head was too difficult. She couldn't hold it in and developed a reputation for being more feral than the rest of her generation. [break][break]
Even now, she refuses to mentally communicate with her familiar, out of concern that both of their thoughts will inevitably blend together. Separation is all that keeps the rage contained.[break][break]
Probably a result of how she wasn't supposed to be a witch, causing no one to explain even basic concepts ahead of time. That, or a giant kitsune is inherently more insanity-inducing. Hard to say.

She knows this is a fact, but fails to understand the bonds between parent and child. Why would anyone ever care? Her way still makes more sense. [break][break]
Describing the entire relationship will take a while. Here's the abridged version: anyone who is part of a nomadic group is considered a Sibling. Maybe they're on a different path–doesn't matter, still counts. The rest of humanity is seen as Cousins, as we're all distantly related somehow, right? [break][break]

If you notice, there isn't any room for generational differences between the people involved. Where are the mothers or uncles? Yeah, they don't exist. The only remaining titles used by Violet's clan are based on occupation. The closest thing they have to a parental figure is equivalent to a day-care worker. Someone's around to focus on raising the children, but there's no illusion that you're related to this person. [break][break]
As established in the last post, love and romantic relationships are a weakness. Better to avoid those, so there aren't a lot of couples traveling together. More common that they would be kicked out for such base desires. The expected path involves one person finding a partner back in town and having a child with them. Even then, it's a gamble that the wanderer will continue traveling if their partner disapproves.[break][break]
It's safe to say that most of the clan are orphans brought in from. . .somewhere. Violet doesn't know. Not her department. [break][break]
Clearly, an inspired person could track down their blood relatives. It's not the biggest mystery out there. Such action is largely discouraged and seen as a waste of time. [break][break]

Right. Before we get too lost in the background details, it’s important to talk about what Violet means when she brings up The Laws as a specific thing. [break][break]
In short, it involves the specific set of rules that her clan follows during everyday life. Well, publicly they admit that their regulations often align with wherever Delphi has set in place. This part is not a lie. A lot of their age limits and education requirements do transition pretty easily into modern society. [break][break]
Except, there’s a certain set of beliefs that they refer to as the Laws of the Wild (summarized as The Laws). It represents the ideals passed down from the very beginning. How does the world work as a whole, where did humanity originate from, what can we do as a species to move forward. It’s a philosophy course that is never fully explained. If we sat here and listed out every detail, you would notice that some of these contradict what most citizens of Delphi believe, and might cause some legal problems if The Laws were public. Who knows, I’m not telling.[break][break]
I will say that there is a heavy emphasis on following the rules of wherever you are currently located. It’s important to follow along to pass on to the clan’s version of the afterlife. The requirements are different for the various classes of people that make up the group. While there are Laws about warriors needing to find an honorable death through combat, someone who only serves as a farmer wouldn’t be bound by the same requirements. [break][break]
It involves details like ‘oh, every familiar is called a spirit’ or maybe ‘bandits are fair targets to attack’. Reincarnation is a thing. Violet skips past certain Laws and only mentions a few during narration, but eventually you, the audience, will get advance notice about how she’s restricted to behaving. We aren’t those kinds of friends yet, so. . .[break][break]

It was referenced earlier, but Violet’s surname is derived from an ancestor that earned their place in the clan's memory. Something they invented benefited the entire group’s survival. The Renai Circulation is what established the nomadic clan’s system of survival, which is the only reason they are still around today. Let’s take a moment to break this down, in order to explain how Violet has lived for the last 30+ years. [break][break]
So, a long time ago, this person described a pattern that would lead to the highest number of survivors, compared to whatever they were doing beforehand. [break][break]
Imagine a group that starts off near Delphi. Each season, they move up to a base far in the north, then east, then to the south, then back to Delphi. Takes a while, but eventually, you hit all the spots in the plan. Reality takes longer than every three months, and there are more than approved four locations to settle, but that’s a good way to imagine it.[break][break]
Some other group is one step behind or ahead, and those are the ones that are easiest to contact. You tell the guys behind that the usual camp is swarming with daemons, so they should head to this other site. Also, we planted some potatoes and wheat so there’s something to eat once they arrive. [break][break]
This system is significantly better than randomly wandering around, so our boy Renai is immortalized as one of twelve sources for surnames that is shared among the clan.Violet’s pretty happy about being associated with this person, even if they aren’t blood-related.[break][break]

She remembers the day like it was yesterday. It was a cloudy afternoon on the banks of the Sotenbori River, where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom. Violet and the Old Man stood facing each other, their swords at the ready.[break]

Violet had been a [redacted] before she met Old Man, and she knew how to fight. She had survived many battles and raids, using her speed and agility to overcome her enemies. She was not afraid of blood or pain. She had a natural instinct for combat, and she trusted it more than anything.[break][break]

He was faster, stronger, and smarter than any opponent she had ever faced. He parried her attack with ease, and countered with a swift kick that sent her flying to the ground. Her training sword flew out of her hand and landed a few feet away.[break][break]
She clawed at the dirt, trying to get up, but he was already on top of her, his sword pointed at her throat. She whimpered in frustration, feeling humiliated and defeated.[break][break]

It's the closest she ever came to having a father figure. Sure, the guy has a real name, but Violet never refers to him as anything else.Old Man. Nothing more than some legendary figure that showed her how to contain the beast raging inside of her. How to pretend to be human. It helped.[break][break]
Officially, the Old Man is one of the leaders who guide the clan towards prosperity. But it's the East. The area has the lowest reputation among the four quadrants. Plenty of derelict fighters wind up stuck there, never sailing beyond their shores.[break][break]
It was his idea to send Violet to Delphi, to absorb all of the resources a prestigious wasted on the idle rich. She had the talent, but none of the experience. If she managed to thrive under the dumb restrictions Cerberus left in her path, she might be able to take over once he retired.[break][break]
