[nospaces] [attr="class","loccont"] [attr="class","loctitle"] THE NOBLE HOUSE OF DELACROIX [attr="class","locbody"] valencian nobility[break][break] The noble house of Delacroix is an old one, back when the Vale was a powerhouse and still had it's former glory. The Delacroix were once upon loyal knights, retainers, generals and soldiers for the Montagues, becoming closer related with various marriages and children sired through the years that the name was one that well-known as a close confidant of the royal branch. However, as the need for militaristic dynasties faded with the modern era, the Delacroix lost some of it's status and power - relying more on their ties to the Montague to stay relevant.[break][break] Nowadays, the House lies in ruins comparatively. Their ties to the Montague, history in maintaining the Monarchy and being ardent supporters and soldiers even during the rebellion meant that the vast majority were put to the sword or rifle. The sole remaining mainline Delacroix are Elizabeth Arlette Delacroix, who enjoys her exile in Delphi and Alexander Olivier Delacroix, an unpopular figure in both the Cavalry and Vale high society with a reputation for pissing away the family fortune in cups and whores.[break][break] The House makes it's money from owning land within Delphi, including an opera house, several commercial docks and a diverse portfolio of housing in both affluent and poorer neighbors. This portfolio is maintained by Elizabeth as the head of the family, something that has become something of a sore spot between the two siblings. The few remaining cousins that survived the revolution act as intermediaries - most would much rather work with Elizabeth over Alexander and often avoid him as much as possible. [attr="class","plotflex"] [attr="class","plotname"] [attr="class","plotstats"] AMELIANCE ARDANTE DELACROIX former matriarch
Ameliance inherited the mantle of the Head of the Delacroix House when she was twenty-four, and cemented her place by marrying into the Montague line, marrying one of the spare princes. Due to the fact that her children would never inherit the throne, they took the Delacroix name over the Montague, and this was determined when her husband passed away from a sudden illness when she was pregnant with her second child.[break][break]
Ameliance was what she had to be to keep her house together, and that was a terror. She was harsh and uncompromising, looking down on both other ancient houses and new wealth alike. She was known for her summoning talents — in particular her ability to summon a great griffon that often served as her mount, and was just as cruel as the summoner. Her children were a particular point of pride for her as well, but she showed them no affection and instead pushed and pushed and pushed until they ultimately broke. Whilst Elizabeth excelled under the pressure, Alexander could not and began to drink heavily.
She died during the revolution where the Delacroix estate was stormed. The estate was then seized and now has been sold off by the government to fund projects in the city.
[attr="class","plotflex"] [attr="class","plotname"] [attr="class","plotstats"] ALEXANDER OLIVIER DELACROIX the spare heir An alcoholic and a gambler, Alexander is not popular in Vale high society. He is "tolerated", and sustained by Elizabeth looking after him to ensure that the various criminal groups in the Vale do not catch themselves a Delacroix in debt. Whilst there was originally hope for him in his marriage to Ophelia Crawford - their failure to conceive a child led to him to be abusive towards his wife. He also found himself outshone by his eldest sister, Elizabeth, both in a social sense as well as a military one, with the former being a far superior commander and witch.[break][break]
Soon later, he began to blame his sister for turning his wife against him and was a key catalyst in the conspiracy to bring Elizabeth to trial and drag through a long painful court marshal. Elizabeth has never been made aware of this, but the two are not on good terms regardless.[break][break]
He currently lives in one of the minor estates that the Delacroix hold in the Vale, but rarely leaves apart from to waste his gold at the various bars. Ocassionally, he deigns to make the trip to Delphi in an effort to intimidate his sister, but this is rarely a successful trip and the two have fought in private before - leading to a stay at Pacem for the spare heir of the House.
[attr="class","plotflex"] [attr="class","plotname"] [attr="class","plotstats"] CIRILLA DELACROIX-FEKETE One of Elizabeth's cousins from her mother's side, Cirilla is a charming lady who has married into a wealthy new money family. She serves as the main link between Elizabeth and the Vale, and is an impressive accountant in her own right. She is well-loved and well-liked, happily married to her husband and has several kids. She is no fighter, but she does have a background in the arts and has become a somewhat famous painter. Her landscapes are popular statement pieces amongst wealthy Valencians, although they wish that she would paint something a little more cheery than her dour-sour landscapes.
[attr="class","plotflex"] [attr="class","plotname"] [attr="class","plotstats"] LORD ANTHONY CANTELL
The Lord of another prominent former military family, the Cantells and Delacroix had long been comrades in army for the Monarchy. Anthony in particular was a dour man who showed little emotions, had no notions of idealism or romanticism about him and saw his marriage as a duty that he had to perform. When he met Elizabeth, he saw her as someone who would make a worthy wife and sought her hand through her mother after the woman herself turned him down at a ball.[break][break]
Their relationship was never on good terms, but they found their respective peaces at work. Their attempts to have children were often delayed, quashed before they began. Anthony began to suspect that his wife was having affairs, and worked together with Alexander in order to uncover evidence of her wrongdoings. In addition, he was certain that losing her position in the Cavalry would break her spirit enough to make her a more obedient wife. [break][break]
Anthony Cantell died shortly before Elizabeth fled to Delphi. Although it was framed as an act by the Rebellion to weaken the chain of command for the Loyalists, there was always a suspicion that Elizabeth herself had murdered him when he pushed her too far.
