"Leave. How dare you step foot in my house." [break][break]
Knobbly fingers grab one of the guest's arms. The latter doesn't move, fingers still presenting a small gold coin.[break][break]
"I see. You didn't forget."[break][break]
"How could I forget what you did to us…"[break][break]
"We, my family, saved you."[break][break]
Nero looms closer and puts his hands on his grandma's shoulders. Just a squeeze to ease the tensions nestled in her body. In the meantime, the conversation remembers her grandson how little he knows from the past — only the memories the older generations wanted to share.[break][break]
"You." The guest's gaze meets his. "I want to talk to you."[break][break]
"Don't take my grandson. You already took -"[break][break]
A cry, the one a small animal would let out, breaks her voice.[break][break]
Nero glances at the door. What's happening? Time slips through his fingers, and he has so much to do before going to the office.[break][break]
"I can offer you a side job that will pay more than moving furniture."[break][break]
The mention of money grabs his attention. There are his grandma's medical expenses, the bills he has to pay, and food. Besides, it doesn't help that one of his older siblings tries to trim his wage at every little thing. The occasional arms' wrestling competitions at the bars bring extra cash, but he wouldn't hate something steadier.[break][break]
Despite everything, his heart doesn't waver.[break][break]
"I don't know you." He doesn't mention the elephant in the room: his grandma's reaction.[break][break]
"For now, but you will."
[attr="id","hydracol"]ten teachings for a nightweaver
1. Do not try to cut the thread of fate.[break][break]
2. Do not knit your path from your heart, but from your veins, even if the faintest dream dawns under your eyelids. Your great-great aunt pictured herself as a wind, a rebellious soul flying away from her roots. She forgot the strings tied to her ankles. How foolish. Too focused on the horizon, she ignored the chains tied around her ankles. One yank turned her into dust.[break][break]
4. When preparing the ingredients for the dye, remember your grandmother's teachings. She explicitly warned you against rushing the process and using substitutes. After all, you know what happens to people who forget the rules. It's about the intent, the purpose that even a grain of sand can display.[break][break]
5. If someone compliments your work, ignore their words. It's not about you. It's about the message, the tale hidden amidst the interwoven threads, and if they don't notice them, it only means you don't share the same beliefs.[break][break]
6. When you accidentally mix the wrong colors - because your mother is correct, you can't do anything on your own -, take a deep breath. Ease your fingers. Act confident. Years of nagging and mood shifts louder and more destructive than thunderstorms have transformed you into an irremovable punching bag.[break][break]
7. When you recognize a forebear's work, do not show it. Pain, persecution, and survival lead it to this place. Some people will never know what a survivor has to do, but you, it sparks your faith.[break][break]
8. Cut yourself some slack the day you'll realize generations of runaways, screams, and fears have molded your inadequacy. There's no spell to entangle the past, but maybe one day, you'll embrace the faded patches and the broken parts of this strange family tapestry.[break][break]
9. If you get older and bolder, weave your collection of scars into what your ancestors left behind. Thread by thread, imprint your existence until someone burns every fiber.[break][break]
10. If they talk about binds, ask them about family.
[attr="id","hydracol"]the orsetti
The Orsetti were once known as skilled weavers whose tapestries were valued by patrons. During The Great War, some of their smaller works included encrypted messages used to communicate with other Hydra members.[break][break]
As time went by, the descendants' interest in the craft withered, to the point the knowledge almost disappeared. Fearing this outcome, Nero's grandmother started to teach him everything she knew.[break][break]
Nowadays, the name Orsetti is tied up to a family business, a moving company, reputed for its discretion and efficiency. They work for companies and individuals — and would really appreciate if people could check out their household appliances after a power cut (especially if they wanted them to move a freezer with a dead body inside).
