These worries were voiced by Raju for years growing up, so much so that his father encouraged him to practice magic since Raju would not have interest in inheriting the woodworking business. Thankfully, the work did not wear his father down, but something else entirely did: a neurological condition that struck hard and fast. His father grew ill almost overnight, and Raju had but a few weeks with his father before it took him. In that time, his dad made an agreement with a longtime friend to watch over Raju and focus on his magical studies so he would be well-set for a lifetime of honest work. Raju and his godfather honored this agreement, but Raju has taken his sweet time in taking on magical work out of caution, an attempt to payback his godfather for such generous care, and a few flimsy attempts to take on woodworking to honor his father.
