[nospaces] [attr="class","piequesttitle"]Hel-len-uh Win-ter-gar-den [attr="class","piequesthover"]How we got here [attr="class","piequest"] Origin story time. This all started because I had to use my email's draft section for the first time in ages. One of the unfinished messages contained a character profile that I never remember using. Like, the base outline is familiar—it's my usual OC you guys haven't met—but she's a musician this time. Alright, cool. [break][break] What caught my attention was how she convinces the band to go kill monsters because it's more profitable. Thought it was modern-day, but nope. So that convinced me to bring over some rock star to Moonrise. Finish whatever the hell younger me was trying to do.[break][break] But, looking at some of the personality, I noticed some more. . . problematic parts of this backstory. Younger me was clearly going for a serial killer angle, who only shifted over to monsters to satisfy her bloodlust. Like, explicitly wanted to murder, but not go to jail. Didn't want to touch any of that, so we're just ignoring it. Probably why I made sure to mention she was a bad parent all the time, because this girl was too wild.[break][break] Since this was too different from the actual OC, we needed a new name to keep the ideas separated. I remembered a past 'character' who never really did anything. Originally, Helena was more of a Persona summon/JoJo stand than an actual person. Apparently, I used her as a familiar back on Starfall, but I legitimately don't remember that happening. Don't bother looking back, that witch is one of Helena's kids later in this thread. [break][break] So that's where all the maternal influence came from. Because she was a giant JoJo reference, I named her after a song. When trying to find something that still worked as 'my Brazilian character's actual mom', I settled on Helena and went from there. So yes, technically, I named her after the song by My Chemical Romance, but that had nothing to do with being a musician. You saw, that part came much later. [break][break] I cannot emphasize how accidentally perfect this ended up being. I could sit here a write a whole 5 page essay on how there's no better name for Helena, but this is supposed to be an intro, remember? Maybe in a later post.[break][break] . . . Meanwhile, Wintergarden is just a misspelling of Wintergatan to be less obvious. Had to continue the music references. Yeah, the song linked above is the reason her familiar is named Valentine. Felt like something an edgy teen would choose anyway.[break][break] [newclass=".piequest"]background: var(--secondbg);color: var(--iconcolor); font-family: 'Jost';font-size: 13px;line-height: 1.8; width: 475px; margin: 0 auto; padding:5em 4em 4em 4em;text-align:justify; box-sizing:border-box;} .piequest a { text-transform:uppercase; width:fit-content; margin:0 auto; display:inline-block; background-color:var(--boardbg); padding:0.6em 0.8em;font-size:0.8em;} .piequest .notes { display: block;font-size: 0.8em;letter-spacing: 0.05em;padding: 4em 4em 0 4em;text-align: center;border-top: 1px solid var(--mainbg); margin-top: 4em; } .piequesttag { margin-top:4em; text-align:center; } .piequesttitle { text-align:center; font-weight:bold; font-size:20px; padding:2em; box-shadow: inset 0 0 0 1000px rgba(18, 18, 30, 0.7); background-size: cover; background-position: center; color: white; font-size: 20px; text-transform: uppercase; letter-spacing: 0.1em; box-sizing: border-box;width:475px;margin:0 auto; } .piequesthover { opacity: 0; transition: ease 0.5s; font-size: 8px; letter-spacing: 0; position: absolute; width: 475px; box-sizing: border-box; font-weight: 300; background-color: #555; padding: 2em; margin-left: -5em; height: 60px; overflow: hidden; background: linear-gradient(transparent, var(--secondbg)); margin-top: -2em; } .piequesttitle:hover .piequesthover {opacity:1;} div[rel=user-22] .piequest b { color: var(--hydra); [/newclass]

[nospaces] [attr="class","piequesttitle"]Helena Everbleed [attr="class","piequesthover"]THERE WILL BE BLOOD IN THE STREETS [attr="class","piequest"]
Gods, it hurts just to think about the past.[break][break]
Witness the persona given to Helena's younger self. A tired, bitter child who lashed out at any attempt to restrain her fury. Going on stage started as a way to relieve stress—before any talk of covens and loyalty entered the scene. When asked today, she downplays her former popularity, but Hydra remembers her contribution. [BREAK][BREAK]
Who could forget the siren who lured plenty of rebellious youths to their deaths? It was her assigned role in the organization, in exchange for reaching a larger audience. Promises of how exactly they'll take back their freedom remain unanswered. She wasn't supposed to have all the answers. In a perfect world, she'd join them in Hel soon enough. [break][break]
A typical performance involved more than music, it was a full experience. There were storylines going on throughout the night, the band members constantly swapped instruments, expensive props got dragged on stage just so she could destroy it. Really needed to drive home the message that Capitalism is the enemy, a tool used to keep everyone in line.[break][break]
And she was all about freedom back then.[break][break]
The loyalty to Hydra is the only time that the past and present agree on anything. The two are fundamentally incompatible. There's a reason Helena threw out all of her own albums. Both sides view the other as a total failure, one who has given up on their dream for the future. We weren't supposed to grow old and settle into a mundane lifestyle. Anyone who lives past twenty-six doesn't care about fulfilling Hydra's mission. Whatever happened to dying for the cause? [break][break]
Yeah, well, you weren't supposed to abandon your own child.[break][break]
The fact that you thought “we're not blood-related” as an actual argument shows just how stupid you were. The whole point was to show off how you're better than your parents, but here you are, making the same mistakes they did. No wonder you broke down crying during your last performance. Anyone would retire after realizing they were a total failure. [break][break]
Anyone who knew the past would agree that the years off were beneficial to everyone. Current Helena is less of an asshole, but we only got here by letting the past self die off. Only her closest friends could convince her to sing one of the old songs. Trying for a second round usually has her end in tears, so don't get greedy.[break][break]

[nospaces] [attr="class","loccont"] [attr="class","loctitle"] roxanne castello [attr="class","locbody"] Acolyte vagabond actress[break][break]
A reckless spirit who drifts from city to city. An immigrant who decided to take advantage of 'being different' from the average population to gain attention. Acting came about as a natural extension of this longing for praise. Apparently, most people find a hobby by choosing whatever they’re good at, but all the genuine interest came later. The spotlight was attractive enough on its own.[break][break]
Getting older hasn’t really caused Roxanne's attitude to mature. She’s still the same energetic girl who spends most of her time finding new ways of having fun. To her, life is all about hanging out with friends and making connections. There's a constant need to be surrounded by positive people. Silence is the enemy: as along long as she doesn't have to sit alone with her thoughts for too long, she's having a good time.[break][break]
Probably why she got along with Helena so easily.[break][break]
Of course, there is no wedding.[break][break]
Between these two? Are you kidding? Promises for eternity would betray their pact with the coven. By all objective measures of reality, their on-and-off-again relationship shouldn't have worked as well as it did. Almost fell apart. Yet here we are, twenty-five years later, still kicking. [break][break]
Despite any differences, they'd die for each other without a second thought. N-not at the same time, one of them needs to stay around for the kids, but expect competition to see who gets to perform the heroic sacrifice. [break][break]
As far as Hydra is concerned, Roxanne is nothing more than a walking advertisement that occasionally brings in new recruits. Kinda how she met Helena, since their roles overlapped so often. You could say that Roxy gave the young spellsinger a direction to channel their unbridled frustration. Sometimes it worked a little too well, so they had to put some distance between each other to calm down.[break][break]
One of these breaks is how Roxanne ended up with her daughter Maia. We don't talk about the father. This isn't his bio. All we need to take away from this, is how Helena's the second emergency contact for the girl. The rest?[break][break]
Well, you saw the table of contents. Be patient.[break] [break]

[nospaces] [attr="class","loccont"] [attr="class","loctitle"] Maia Ramirez Garcia Castello [attr="class","locbody"] sentinel guardian angel nurse[break][break]
“I can’t even take credit for this one, the girl’s too good. ”[break][break]
This isn’t how the event really played out. [break][break]
But imagine a thirty-something Helena nervously pacing back and forth in front of her girlfriend's house. Semi-retired. It’s their first meeting in what feels like a lifetime—but they’ve always known each other, right? It is too hard to imagine a life without Roxanne, so this had to happen eventually. Just go right in. What’s the worst that can happen? [break][break]
Maybe she should wait until tomorrow—Her therapist did suggest another meeting before—[break][break]
The door opens without any input, and there they are. Roxanne and her little daughter. Helena ran one hand through her hair and sighed. Guess it’s showtime. [break][break]
“Hey, Roxs” A light smile buried any whiff of her earlier hesitation. she crouched down to greet the small child hiding in the background. “So you’re Maia. It’s nice finally to meet you.”[break][break]
[break][break]
The two of them never actually lived together, but the aging musician made a point to visit all the time. Not like she had anything else to do during rehab. If anyone asks, she always thanks Veronica you’ll meet her later for bringing the whole family together. Both sisters were the same age so, it wasn’t too hard for Helena to relate to her step-daughter. [break][break]
In fact, you won’t see anyone here bring up the fact that they aren’t blood-related so let’s drop that plotline entirely.[break][break]
In the present day, Maia is a nurse working to help out the disadvantaged in Tartarus. Heal the poor, extort the rich. Not like she needs to overcharge everyone, with a rich parent and all. But if you can actually afford the treatment, then why are you even in this part of town? Joining Sybaris had more to do with settling logistics. A chance to ignore the gangs so they won’t stand in the way of her mission. While she’d love to fight against every instance of corruption, some challenges aren’t possible at her current level. [break][break]
The Revolution is too slow-moving to ever sound appealing. Promises of future victory are too far gone, when there are people out there who are suffering. Not interested in doing crimes to save the world. Sorry Hydra, better luck next time...[break][break]

[nospaces] [attr="class","loccont"] [attr="class","loctitle"] Veronica Winters [attr="class","locbody"] initiate selfless vengeance[break][break]
A reflection from the past.[break][break]
Helena's self-criticism stands in the way of admitting that actually did a good job here. For various reasons, we’re stuck with the cute version of how this plays out. Some grumpy adult who can’t have kids gets stuck raising some strange child. Learning together. Stubbornly learning how to be a better parent than her own folks. [break][break]
Would’ve made a nice heartwarming story. You know, except for the part where the kid becomes a terrorist.[break][break]
The kind-hearted little girl wears her heart on her sleeve. Her public persona spends her time volunteering at a community center in Tartarus. Just giving back to the community that helped her out while she was growing up. There’s always going to be a new group of people that need assistance. But there’s only so much one can do to ease the symptoms if they never address the root cause.[break][break]
This wasn’t supposed to be a legacy hire. Everyone’s free to do what they want. Veronica independently found her way into Hydra, fully believing the coven is capable of changing the world for the better. This right here is the entire reason Helena started doing missions and acting as an active member again. “Look, I’m not taking orders from my own kid,” she says.[break][break]
Yeah, right. [break][break]
You just want to make sure you die first. [break][break]
These two sit on opposite ends of the political spectrum. Helena joined for the rebellious cause—freedom from outdated restrictions. A diplomatic victory is still a success in her mind, one that involves less murder from each side. There’s no reason for civilians to get caught in the crossfire of some blood feud or whatever. Vengeance only leads to more violence.[break][break]
Veronica has heard too many examples of corruption from Cerberus and the police to ever get along with them. She’s here to burn the institution to the ground since anything would be better than letting those assholes get away with being terrible for so long. The passive option clearly isn’t working, so it’s time for war. [break][break]
Sounds familiar to anyone who knew Helena back in the 90s. With time, it’s a safe bet to assume that Veronica would mellow out with age, and settle for more reasonable targets. But who has time to wait for an uncertain future? The goddess of luck is a fickle bitch. [break][break]

Since he never asked for assistance, the kid’s been left to himself. While he does have a decent voice, these days he’s off trying to be a DJ. You know, instead of acting like some magical prodigy. Hey man, don't sweat it. No need to keep proving yourself, we see you. But I get it, three decades is a long ass time. Some of these newbies weren't even born when Death's Roulette started. As a senior member of The Squad, let me give you a quick rundown of the classics. [nospaces] [attr="class","chartl"] [attr="class","chartltitle"]Discography [attr="class","chartl-item"]Inferno (1993): The band's debut album. It quickly gained a following within the underground punk and emo scenes. The album features a raw and gritty sound, with heavy distortion and angst-filled lyrics that deal with themes of societal oppression, personal struggles, and political disillusionment. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Ragnarok (1997): The band's sophomore album takes a bold and daring leap from its debut release. With a fearless blend of punk, metal, and ska influences, this new experimental sound is an evolution for the band. Groundbreaking shit. The lyrics delve deep into the human experience. Plenty of themes related to depression, anxiety, and personal struggles are woven throughout each track.[break][break]
Among the album's standout hits is "Fata Morgana" The urgent vocals express the futility of existence. The lyrics question the meaning of everyday life. It's a cathartic release of emotion that leaves the listener breathless and wanting more. Fortunately, we didn't have to wait long [attr="class","chartl-item"]Pandaemonium (1999): An album that is both experimental and uncompromising. Old, but gold. Recorded during some of their live shows, the album captures the band's raw energy and intensity. It's the first of a pair where they're entirely in character. The lead singers Helena and Anthony engage in a fierce battle for attention as they argue over the direction of the band. [break][break]
"L'Oiseau de Feu" was a rallying cry for disenfranchised youth and a call to action for those who had lost faith in the political establishment. It's no surprise that this album became popular among the Vale, despite a commercial failure. [attr="class","chartl-item"]JOKER (2003): A return to their punk/emo roots. The album showcased the band's raw talent with high-energy, fast-paced tracks that demonstrated their musical prowess. Critics and fans alike praised JOKER for its impressive musicality. Standout singles like "Low-End Breaker" and "Furious Melody" became instant classics.[break][break]
Freida's songwriting skills were also on full display. She crafted all these emotionally charged lyrics that complemented the music. The album's themes explored the dark and chaotic aspects of life, delving into topics like love, loss, and the struggle to find meaning in a seemingly meaningless world. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Die For Me (2005): Another set of live sessions that showcased a more stripped-down and emotional side of their music. However, the recording process was reportedly difficult for the band, with tensions running high and emotions raw. Helena's vocal performances were particularly intense. There were a lot of screams and sobs that reflected the album's overarching themes of finality and despair.[break][break]
Despite Die For Me's emotional intensity, the album is often ignored by the band. Only the diehard fans still circulate it amongst themselves. It serves as a reminder of some of their darkest days, and is not regularly played during their new shows. [attr="class","chartl-item"]? ? ? A complete mystery. There's always rumors of songs that they finished writing before everything fell apart. Anthony's death. The break-up. Lineup change. Hard to say if anything from this time period survived until their return. All that matters is that they came back to us. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Death's Roulette (2013): This album marked a new era for the band, solidifying their current line-up. It was a more upbeat and hopeful offering than their previous albums. Some people were worried that they had gone too mainstream, but like, did they even listen to "Dark Nebula" or "Bloody Divorce?" It's the same sound we all grew up with, just less nihilistic about literally everything. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Anger of the Earth (2017): In case anyone worried that they had gone soft, this next album should set the record straight. This one involves commentary on contemporary political and social issues. It's clear that the band's using their platform to express their anger and frustration. Featured more electronic influences and experimental sounds. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Baptism by Thunder (2020): A perfect blend of raw emotion and refined musicianship. With a plethora of slower tracks that gradually intensify in speed and intensity, listeners can expect heavy guitar riffs and a driving drumbeat that hits hard. The standout track, "Meltdown," is particularly lengthy, clocking in at over ten minutes, and showcases each band member's willingness to give in to the inevitable collapse of society.[break][break]
This album not only demonstrates Death's Roulette's longevity in the industry but also its ability to evolve and produce powerful and meaningful music. For fans of the band, listening to Baptism by Thunder right after Inferno provides a unique experience, highlighting the band's development over the years. It's a must-listen for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in Death's Roulette's captivating style. [attr="class","chartl-item"]Untitled Album (2023): It's been reported that they've been working on a new release. It's gotta come out this year, for the 30th anniversary. That donation drive during the lockdown is supposed to reveal the first song, but that's scheduled for next week. Come back later if you want a recording, or just show up for the live demo. It's gonna be worth it. {Spoiler}In case anyone is wondering, all of these names, even the self-titled album, are taken from the Persona series. Specifically, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. It always had a vague connection to Helena, since it's the reason one of her daughters is named Maia. I just thought it'd be fun to keep the reference going.

[nospaces] [attr="class","loccont"] [attr="class","loctitle"] 42 Cemetery Drive, Apt. #215 [attr="class","locbody"] downtown hydra-friendly comfy[break][break] As soon as you step into Helena's apartment, you can't help but notice the building's rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. Located in the heart of downtown Delphi, this brick-clad structure has become an icon in the area. And who wouldn't appreciate the cool architecture?[break][break]
The décor is an eclectic mix of vintage and modern, with bold colors and quirky accessories. Everywhere you look, there are traces of her favorite bands and artists. There's very little of her own band's accomplishments to show off because well, why would she need it? She's not a narcissist.[break][break]
Despite the constant state of disarray - with music equipment, empty pizza boxes, and clothes strewn about - the apartment feels cozy and welcoming. Helena often falls asleep on the couch, which is covered in a tattered quilt and an assortment of throw pillows. It's kinda nice, really.[break][break]
Interestingly, despite having two bedrooms, Helena is often alone in the apartment. Her wife and youngest daughter typically stay elsewhere, making it a rare occurrence to see the whole family together. But that doesn't stop Helena from enjoying her beloved space. [newclass=".loccont"]background: var(--secondbg); color: var(--iconcolor); font-family: "Jost"; font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.8; width:520px; margin: 0 auto; box-sizing: border-box; } .loctitle { text-align:center; font-weight:bold; font-size:20px; border-bottom:1px solid var(--thirdbg); color: white; font-size: 20px; text-transform: uppercase; letter-spacing: 0.1em; box-sizing: border-box; padding:2em; margin-bottom:1em; box-shadow: inset 0 0 0 1000px rgba(18, 18, 30, 0.7); background-size: cover; background-position: center; } .locbody { padding:2em 3em 3em 3em; text-align:justify; } .locbody span { background-color:var(--boardbg); padding:0.2em 1em; float:right; margin:0 0.2em; } .locbody span:first-child { margin-right: 0;} .locbody b { color:var(--hovericoncolor);[/newclass] Sidebar: [break][break]
One unique aspect of Helena's apartment is that the whole place is owned by Freida, so she got it at a discount. It's the only thing that got her out of those slums. You know all about. . . Huh? What do you mean 'Who's Frieda?' Didn't you see—oh wait. We haven't taken about this yet, have we? Next time, we'll talk about the band members and all get on the same page.
