Lucille opens up the wrapped packages with care. Warmth sparks in her carmine eyes as she reads the letter. She immediately begins on a reply.

Dear clair saint-juste,

Lab work is well...lab work. Nothing too dangerous. Mostly its writing up reports and also occasionally helping out the PhD students with their work. Ravi is hell bent on keeping me healthy so don't worry, I'm well looked after. Have you been taking care of yourself? I know work gets busy for you but remember not to neglect your meals.

As for the visit, how about lunch this weekend? We can go book hunting afterwards if you have the time.

Friendship Day at the Church of Her Mercy is a bustling day. Many kids at the orphanage take part in it with the most enthusiasm, writing cute letters and folding origami.

The church itself sends out a thankful letter to all the members and volunteers of the community ( @caleb Kap Az'es mitra van laar kasimir burovski zohal letifer ), along with another small letter handwritten and drawn by the children.

To you, our warm community,

Thank you for being a part of Her Mercy's wing. Friendship Day reminds us how far we've come from starting as a small chapel of worship, to the wonderful congregation we have today. Old friends and new, we truly appreciate you and all your efforts in building this church and school together.

Be you a long standing church member or a seasonal volunteer, may Mother Sona sing her praise to you. We wish you the most pleasant of Friendship Days, and many more to come.

Hesper has actually sat down and tried to write these letters before. Most of the time, they just didn't come out right, so he threw them away to start anew — or he had a surprise visitor and had to postpone them, forgetting about them until later when he walked past his desk again. Some were completed ahead of time, and so you see, our good doctor was learning to write important things ahead of time.

When Hesper writes his letters, some contents are... obviously dated, while others were written in more present-tense. He hopes they don't mind. He meant to send them out sooner, but life ( and work ) was hectic.

basil fade will find this letter in front of her door. It looks completely ordinary, lacking a seal. The only identifier it was from her silver-haired cousin was from the well-practised looped, cursive handwriting of the letter inside, and the pink rose attached to it.

Hey Baz,

So, I misplaced my interface, hence the reason I'm sending this message to you via letter instead of a voicemail. Sorry, you won't hear my lovely voice this year!

I just wanted to let you know that I love you, and that I'm grateful for you being here for me. You've done a lot for me this year, and I'm sorry I haven't shown my gratitude toward you. I know the letter and the rose won't make up for that by itself, so let's hang out sometime when things get less crazier on my side.

a courier finds the first hunter that arrives in delphi that day, presenting them with a letter and with instructions to share the information with the rest. the envelope, when opened, contains a number of items: a letter hand-written in serafim's neat, looping script, a small card recognisable as authorisation of the usage of a private dock in port of delphi, and a large, iron-wrought key with a tag attached to it, reading, aemilius.[break][break]

i do apologise for the hastiness of my departure, though by now, i hope to leave you in good hands. i've tried, over the time i've known each of you, some longer than others, to share whatever skills i've found useful in this line of work, and have in turn learned much from each and every one of you. i'm grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve as your captain, and, if circumstances were any different, would not hesitate to return if you would have me.[break][break]

alas, there are some things that, try as we might, we cannot control. i've tried to make this process as smooth as possible, though i'm sure i've overlooked something somewhere. if you should need to contact me, you should be able to reach me at:[break][break]

there is a blank space here, marked only by a single, fresher dot of ink, like someone had let a pen rest on parchment for a moment too long in thought. upon closer inspection, it appears that most of the letter was written at an earlier date, and that when filling in the missing information later, its writer had either thought the better of it, or drawn a blank entirely.[break][break]

p.s. i suspect that your access to the polaris may be limited from here on out. i've taken the liberty of relocating any personal belongings were left on board, and you can find them in the enclosed address.

a ship awaits them at the address, floating gently in a corner of delphi's docks. its make is similar to the polaris, though marginally simpler, having done away with the row of chains that had previously hung around the sides of the ship for hunters to attach themselves to.[break][break]

instead, the newer ship seems to opt for a blend of traditional human craftsmanship and something unmistakably built for witches: it is shallower, its deck broader to accomodate large familiars, complete with mechanical panels along its sides that can serve as ramps out at sea. the classic hook-harpoon combination remains at its bow, as per any typical hunting vessel, but the most distinctive change is the anchor. the ship has completely done away with a traditional anchor, and has instead replaced them with an asymmetrical design of enchanted paddles along each submerged side of the boat, mimicking the steady motion of a certain sea dragon's fins as he treads water. the ship is hardly an empty shell, too: the armory has been restocked with new weapons, no longer the repurposed designs that survived the crew of selwyn hale, but each modified and custom-made according to specifications and observations the captain had made over their time together. [break][break]

then, resting by the wheel, a series of small wooden figurines, carved by dragon claw. axius, too, seems to have left gifts for each of them.

leaving the ship, the dockmaster intercepts the hunters with yet another message. "the fella who left this here," they start, frowning a little as they struggle to recall the encounter. "seemed like he was in a bit of a rush. still, said that he'd, ah, 'love to still hang out if you wanted to, once the fuss dies down', or something like that."[break][break]

try as you might, the dockmaster won't give you an answer as to where to find the former captain. or rather, he can't. the best you get is a gruff sort of shrug, and they say, "i 'unno. like i said, he was in a rush. said you'd know where to find him— 'can't be that hard', he said."

Naturally, Ana was all ready to give quite the extraordinary expression to each of his dear friends. Now, Ana could very well just write how they felt...but that was not Ana's style.

They were always more prone to provide their emotions via song. So, each of their dear pals, would receive a song sung by Ana via charm to their interfaces...it was nice having connections to enchanters...they really were helpful when it came to making a statement. Each song was either about them, reminded Ana of them, or was for them in some capacity...of course, Ana didn't want to explain, part of the fun was letting their friends interpret:

Her first letter is to basil fade. It comes with a bottle of (rather expensive) wine. It shows an absurd amount of hearts when opened.

he's decidedly not sober when he finally decrypts the letter from clair saint-juste. he's most definitely not in any better state when he reads it — once, twice, thrice, to make sure he understood it correctly, despite being confident in his abilities of decoding it. then he laughs, disbelieving at first, then startled when it bursts into glitter.

Melusine had never heard of this strange holiday. Friendship Day? By the time she sat down, she'd already received a few letters. One from a stranger, one from Diespiter, one from Ginny. There was not a single letter from her best friend Annie. Wasn't that a shame - she'd have to write a letter first. Annie was one of the last people on her list, though. She had so many letters to respond to!

Dear Paul,

I'm doing well, thank you. How are you? This is my first time celebrating Friendship Day and my first time receiving a letter from someone I don't know. Delphi is full of strange customs and stranger people, but it's nice. Perhaps my homeland could use this sort of hospitality - a day to celebrate friendships and foster new ones.

Enough about me - what about you? Are you a Pegasus witch, too? I found this letter at the door, in the Pegasus dorms. If you'd like, you're welcome to visit me. I don't have much here, but we could chat over tea and cookies.

I love the enchantment on the letter, by the way. Is it cinnamon?

The letters arrive without names attached. Well all except one. They don’t even appear to have a stamp or anything. The writing of each name is very pretty though. Calligraphy.
